Floyd Leonard, Miami Nation chief, dies at 82

Floyd E. Leonard, the longtime chief of the Miami Nation of Oklahoma, died on Saturday. He was 82.

Leonard, a World War II veteran, began serving his tribe in 1954. After stints on the tribal council and as second chief, he became chief in 1974.

He held the position until 1982, when he resigned due to health resigns. He was elected again as chief in 1989 and was serving at the time of his death.

Funeral services will take place tomorrow at the tribe's cemetery.
