Quinault woman sentenced for fatal car crash

A 20-year-old member of the Quinault Nation of Washington was sentenced to 26 months for a fatal car crash.

Sela Anne Kalama, a former Miss Quinault, pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter. She admitted responsibility for the deaths of Ronnie L. Scroggins, 15, who was a member of the Makah Nation, and Vanna K. Francis, 17, who was a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Kalama was 19 at the time of the March 18, 2007, incident. She admitted she had been drinking and was using her cell phone when she drove her car into the Elwha River on the Lower Elwha Klallam Reservation.
