United Auburn in first year of first tribal school

The United Auburn Indian Community of California has established its first school.

About 175 students are attending the first full year of the United Auburn Indian Community Tribal School. Tribal leaders and educators are promoting a pro-Indian curriculum for the K-12 school.

"Prior to this getting built, most of the tribal members were just getting by. So when you're just getting by, you don’t focus on the culture. Now they have the resources to do that," tribal spokesperson Doug Elmets told The Colfax Record.
