Members of the
Tulalip Tribes of Washington voted in favor of two bills at a general council meeting on Saturday.
The Future Generations Land Protection Act imposes a tax of about 17 percent on people who develop land on the reservation. The tribe plans to use the tax revenue to buy more land..
The Tribal Member First Employment Act creates an Indian preference policy for hiring. Qualified Indian applicants will be guaranteed a job over non-Indians.
