Winnebago Tribe, corporation strengthen ties
Wednesday, April 9, 2008

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska plans to work more closely with its award-winning economic development corporation, Ho-Chunk Inc.

The tribe and HCI will develop a financial reporting system and communications plan in hopes of avoiding disputes. The move came after an outside financial audit questioned some of the corporation's practices. Some executives were also temporarily suspended.

The tribe started HCI in 1994. It has grown into a major business with over $100 million in revenues. Unemployment on the reservation has dropped from 70 percent to 20 percent since HCI began.

HCI owns Indianz.Com and AllNative.Com.
