Lummi Nation delegation meets Dalai Lama

Members of the Lummi Nation of Washington met with the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, on Saturday.

Darrell Hillaire, a former Lummi chair, helped organize the Dalai Lama's trip to Seattle. He made sure tribal representatives greeted the Tibetan leader before his speech at the Qwest Field.

“There was a lot of good feeling in the room,” Hillaire told The Bellingham Herald.

The tribe participated in a procession during the Dalai Lama's speech and gave him a cedar bark hat, a sash and necklace that were made by Lummi youth.
