White Earth candidates challenge primary

Seven candidates in the recent primary held by the White Earth Band of Ojibwe are contesting the results.

The election board held a hearing on Monday to address the challenges. The candidates allege various irregularities in the April 1 vote.

Incumbent Chairwoman Erma Vizenor won re-election with more than 66 percent of the vote. She is only one of two Minnesota Chippewa leaders to win a primary with more than 50 percent of the vote.
