Indian Affairs business meeting, hearing

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a business meeting and oversight hearing this morning at 9am.

The business meeting lasted about 19 minutes. Five items were on the agenda and all were approved:

• Nomination of Robert McSwain to be Director of Indian Health Service
H.R. 65, Lumbee Recognition Act
S. 1779, Tribal Health Promotion and Tribal Colleges and Universities Advancement Act
H.J. Res. 62, Native American Heritage Day Act of 2007
S.1193, the Albuquerque Indian School Act.
After the meeting, the committee held an oversight hearing on "Recommendations for Improving the Federal Acknowledgment Process." It lasted about an hour:
