North Carolina radio partnership criticized

Some members of the
North Carolina Commission
of Indian Affairs are upset over a partnership with a radio station whose DJs made derogatory remarks about Native Americans.
Brett Locklear, a member of the
Lumbee Tribe, and Patrick Lambert, a member of the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, said the commission shouldn't have accepted an apology from "Bob and the Showgram" and
WDCG. They accused the commission of "selling out" to Clear Channel Communications, which owns the station.
Other North Carolina Indians are upset too. They are trying to persuade businesses to stop advertising on WDGC after DJ Bob Dumas and his co-hosts referred to Native people as "lazy" and "inbred" and specifically singled out Lumbees.
Despite the complaints, the commission plans to work with Clear Channel on ways to address Native issues.
