Tribes receive slaughtered Yellowstone bison

Tribes in Montana, Michigan, North Dakota and Wyoming are among those that have received meat from slaughtered bison that wander out of
Yellowstone National Park.
More than one-third of the Yellowstone herd has been killed this winter. That's left over 600,000 pounds of meat to distribute.
Montana received more than 350 requests from tribes and tribal organizations for meat, heads and hides, the spokesman for the
Montana Department of Livestock said. The department oversees the slaughter of the animals.
Montana officials are allowed to kill the animals to prevent the transmission of brucellosis, a deadly disease, to cattle. More than 1,400 have been slaughtered this winter.
