Turtle Mountain landowners allege mismanagement

Members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians are trying to figure out what happened to their land.

The federal government allotted land to Chippewa Indians in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. But landowners say no one kept track of their property -- or the activities that occurred on it.

"We haven't seen our land, we don't know what`s on our land, and we don`t really know what's happening to our land," Jessie Cree told KFYR-TV.

The Turtle Mountain Allottee Association is now trying to determine what happened. Landowners blame the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Special Trustee but an official denied any wrongdoing.
