Meeting focuses on Black Hills trust settlement

In 1980, the
U.S. Supreme Court said the Sioux Nation was entitled to $146 million for the theft of the Black Hills.
But the Sioux people have refused to accept the money. Since then, the trust account has grown to $863 million and could even be over $1 billion.
Some tribal members want a share of that money. A non-Indian attorney is leading an effort to gain support for a payout.
But tribal leaders and activists want the land returned to them. They have resisted attempts by Congress to distribute the money.
