North Dakota tribe plans to take over IHS clinic

The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota is moving forward with plans to take over an Indian Health Service clinic on the Fort Berthold Reservation.

The tribe has established a health board to oversee the delivery of services. Dr. Monica Mayer, a tribal member, was appointed to sit on the board.

The tribe plans to enter into a self-determination contract to manage the clinic on the reservation. The tribe is also working on securing funding to build a hospital to replace the one that was destroyed by the Missouri River water project.
