County sheriff hopes to improve tribal relations

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department in California has announced two proposals to improve relations with tribes.

The county plans to hire a tribal liaison and hire and train tribal members to police reservations. More than a dozen tribes are located in the county.

This month, sheriff's deputies were involved in the fatal shootings of three members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. The department continues to talk with the tribe about law enforcement on the reservation.
