BIA publishes federal recognition decisions
The Bureau of Indian Affairs published two federal recognition decisions in the Federal Register today.

Both cases affect tribes from Louisiana. One is the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and the other is the Biloxi, Chitimacha Confederation of Muskogees.

In both cases, former assistant secretary Carl Artman said the tribes did not meet the criteria for federal status. He signed the decisions on May 22, the day before he left office.

Comments are due on both decisions by November 22. After, the BIA will prepare final determinations for both tribes.
