Eight banished from Snoqualmie Tribe file suit

Eight members of the
Snoqualmie Tribe of
Washington who were banished in April have filed a lawsuit in federal court.
The plaintiffs include elected chairman Bill Sweet and some council members. They were removed by a group led by honorary chief Jerry Enick, who claims he is the legitimate leader of the tribe.
The suit is based on the Indian Civil Rights Act. Attorney Rob Roy Smith said the banished members were not given a chance to dispute their removal.
Enick's faction also removed 43 people from the rolls.
