Study cites high Native youth alcohol disorder rate
A forthcoming study says American Indian and Alaska Native youth are more likely to suffer from an alcohol use disorder than any other racial or ethnic group.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 14.9 percent of Native youth aged 12 to 20 suffered from an alcohol use disorder. That was higher than the rate for whites (10.9 percent), blacks (4.6 percent), Hispanics (8.7 percent) and Asians (4.9 percent).

The study, which is based on data from the National Surveys on Drug Use and Health, is being released today.
