Longest Walk 2 in final stretch of 8,300-mile journey
Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Participants in the Longest Walk 2 are in the final stretch of their 8,300-mile journey across the United States.

The 100 walkers began the trip in San Francisco on February 11. One group went north and another went south.

After meeting with tribes in more than a dozen states, the groups will meet up in Maryland and continue towards their final destination of Washington, D.C. Participants plan to present Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan) with a document that addresses sacred sites and environmental issues.

The walkers are expected to arrive in DC on July 11.
