Only half of police officers on reserves are Native
Only half of the officers that serve Native communities in Canada are Native, according to a survey of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Of the 788 officers surveyed, only 55 percent are Native. That's down from the 77 percent in a 1996 survey.

The RCMP has increased efforts to recruit Native officers. One former recruit said Native officers are rarely promoted.
