Funding bill advances Navajo water rights project
The Senate is considering an appropriations bill that includes $1 million to advance a component of the Navajo Nation water rights settlement.

The money would be used to finalize an environmental impact statement for a pipeline in New Mexico. The Navajo-Gallup project -- whose cost is estimated at nearly $1 billion -- will serve reservation and off-reservation communities.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved S.1751, the 2009 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act on July 10.
