Montana tribe's court hosts legal symposium
The appeals court of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes held a legal symposium on the Flathead Reservation in Montana on Tuesday.

Cultural Connection and the Law addressed a wide range of legal issues. Participants discussed sovereignty, tribal courts, jurisdiction and water rights.

The tribe's court was cited as a way the tribe has maintained a cultural connection. Though the tribe's criminal code is modeled after the state's, the court offers alternative methods of discipline
