Lawmaker in Abramoff scandal ending prison term

Former Congressman Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the only member of Congress indicted in connection with the Jack Abramoff scandal, will be completing his sentence this weekend.
Ney was sentenced to 30 months but only served a total of 17 months in a corrections facility and a halfway house. He will remain on probation for two years.
Ney admitted he accepted campaign contributions, trips and other items of value in exchange for helping Abramoff's tribal clients. He promised to help two Texas tribes reopen their casinos.
J. Steven Griles, the former deputy secretary at the
Interior Department who was also charged for his role in the scandal, completed his prison sentence last month. Italia Federici, a former Abramoff associate, has been able to avoid time in a halfway house as part of her sentence.
