Rumsey Band donates $500K to womens' safe house
Tuesday, August 12, 2008

The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians donated $500,000 to help an organization in Sacramento, California, build a safe house for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

The 12,000 square-foot WEAVE Safehouse will provide more space to help women and children. When completed, the facility will be the second largest domestic violence shelter in California.

"WEAVE is providing outstanding and vital services. It is tragic that women and children have been sent elsewhere in the past for lack of space," said Rumsey Chairman Marshall McKay, The Woodland Daily Democrat reported.
