La Jolla men win rural volunteer award
Two members of the La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians received a $4,000 award for their efforts during the devastating Poomacha fire of October 2007.

The fire destroyed 97 percent of the reservation. Brothers Ben and Tom Rodriguez made sure the tribe's water system was working during the blaze.

For their efforts, the brothers received the Yoneo Ono Award from the Rural Community Assistance Corp. They are giving most of the money away -- $2,000 to the American Red Cross and $1,000 to the American Cancer Society.
