Havasupai Tribe to keep village closed until 2009

The
Havasupai Tribe says its village at the bottom of the
Grand Canyon will stay closed until spring 2009.
Supai village was damaged by heavy rain and flooding on August 16. The tribe's tourism economy has been wrecked as a result.
Damages are still being assessed but a disaster fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank Arizona, Account 7089718444, 330 East Beale St., Kingman, AZ 86401 The
Yavapai-Apache Nation recently donated $15,000 to the tribe.
Meanwhile, state and federal officials are reviving plans to install a warning system on the reservation. More than 450 tribal members and tourists were evacuated during the flood.
