Sen. McCain returns Cherokee Nation donation
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) returned a donation from the Cherokee Nation because the Republican presidential candidate doesn't accept money from tribes.

The tribe wanted to donate $2,300 to the former chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. But it was returned, the tribe's spokesperson said.

Chief Chad Smith publicly praised Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois) after the Democratic presidential candidate urged Congress not to get involved in a tribal citizenship dispute. The tribe has donated $250,350 to politicians in the current election cycle, The Tulsa World reported.

Of Oklahoma tribes, only the Chickasaw Nation gave more, with $326,850 in donations.
