Taos Pueblo reintroduces otters on reservation
Taos Pueblo has reintroduced river otters to its reservation in northern New Mexico.

The tribe worked closely with state and federal officials to bring the animals back to the Rio Pueblo de Taos. Otters were last seen in the state in 1953.

"The Taos Pueblo War Chief's Office is proud to have worked with all the other agencies on this project," war chief Luis Romero said, The Santa Fe New Mexican reported.

The tribe, the state and the U.S. Department of Agriculture eventually hope to release 20 to 30 otters in the river.
