The city of Farmington, New Mexico, has rejected an offer to settle a wrongful death suit filed by the family of a Navajo Nation man who was shot and killed by a police officer.

Clint John, 21, was shot four times by officer Shawn Scott in June 2006. Police were responding to a domestic violence complaint at a Wal-Mart parking lot involving John's girlfriend.

John's family wants to settle the case and will probably ask a federal judge to postpone the November 17 trial pending additional talks
