Neal McCaleb cites 'worldwide' economic woes

The global economy is in recession, former Bureau of Indian Affairs head Neal McCaleb said.

McCaleb, a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, spoke at the Native Business Network luncheon in Tulsa yesterday. He told tribal business executives and employees to take steps to ensure they will survive the downturn.

"This is not just an aberration that's happening on some segment of the East Coast or on Wall Street or even just in the United States, it's worldwide," said McCaleb, The Tulsa World reported. "What we have is an ebb tide receding."

After leaving the BIA, McCaleb went to work for his tribe as chairman of the board of directors of Chickasaw Nation Industries. He also sits on the board of directors of Bank 2, which is owned by the tribe.
