Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl says the Canadian government will work with Native leaders and churches to find a new member of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Strahl said the resignation of Harry LaForme, an Ontario appeal court justice and member of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, left a "big hole" in the group's work. He said a replacement should be found as soon as possible.

The commission is designed to take stories from survivors of residential schools and further the healing process. LaForme resigned over the direction of the group.
