Racism denied in shooting death of Native teen
Racism was not a factor in the shooting death of a Native teen in Winnipeg, Manitoba, according to the official inquest report.

Matthew Dumas, 18, was Metis. He was shot by a police officer in February 2005 in what Native leaders said was an act of bias.

But provincial court Judge Mary Curtis said there was no evidence to suggest race played a factor. The officer who shot Dumas is Metis.

Dumas died in the same week that officers in Winnipeg shot and killed a Native man.
