Eastern Cherokees revitalize traditional arts
Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are reviving their traditional arts with the help of Western Carolina University.

Revitalization of Traditional Cherokee Artisan Resources began in 2004 as part of WCU's Cherokee studies program. The program helps tribal members gain access to materials used for baskets and pottery.

RTCAR has distributed $1.2 million in grants as part of its mission. The money comes from the Cherokee Preservation Foundation, which was created by the tribal-state gaming compact.
