The Bush administration says it improved Indian schools, strengthened law enforcement on reservations and increased energy production on Indian lands.

A document from the Interior Department cited the three as "accomplishments" from 2001 through 2007. But two out of the three include efforts only taken since outgoing Secretary Dirk Kempthorne came on board in May 2006.

The administration said it has allocated more than $1.7 billion to replace and repair Bureau of Indian Education schools. Another $40.5 million is being promised, in a future budget, to improve student achievement levels.

The document also cites efforts to improve tribal law enforcement and fight methamphetamine on reservations. Kempthorne started the "Safe Indian Communities Initiative" in the department's fiscal year 2008 budget.

Finally, the administration says it "disbursed more than $2 billion in energy royalties to tribes" from 2001 through 2007. The document does not provide any data to compare to prior administrations.
