San Manuel Band donates $7.3M to nonprofits

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California donated a record $7.3 million to non-profits, charities, schools and other organizations.

The bulk of the money went to organizations in southern California. Recipients included two chapters of the American Red Cross and Sherman Indian School.

Some donations went out of state. Northwest Indian College in Washington received $2.5 million and Northern Arizona University received $2 million for an Indian cultural center.

"We have been on the receiving end," Chairman James Ramos told The Riverside Press-Enterprise. "Now, we are in a position to give."
