Turtle Mountain man credited with saving life

Jamie Hamley, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, rescued a man from a burning car in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Tuesday.

Hamley, 33, was driving his three children to school when a vehicle collided with two other cars and burst into flames. The former volunteer firefighter made sure his family was safe before running to the scene of the accident with a fire extinguisher he keeps in his van.

Hamley was able to rescue Cody Doohen, 20, from the burning car. Less than a minute later, the vehicle exploded.

"We're just thankful he's alive right now," Debbie Doohen, Cody Doohen's mother, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. "It's been a long day."
