On his last day in office, former President George W. Bush denied a clemency petition for imprisoned American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier.

Bush apparently did not give a reason for rejecting Peltier's long-running request to be freed from prison for the 1975 murders of two FBI agents. But the denial was one of several high-profile cases before the White House.

Peltier is serving two life terms and has denied any guilt for his role in the FBI deaths on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He has been denied parole.
