Hopi Tribe to elect chairman and vice chairman

The Hopi Tribe of Arizona is scheduled to elect a new chairman and vice chairman after the top two leaders resigned after a long battle..

Former chairman Ben Nuvamsa was at odds with former vice chairman Todd Honyaoma Sr. for most of 2007 and 2008. Their fight finally ended when both stepped down at the end of 2008.

A primary and general election are slated to take place in April but there's some question about the legitimacy of the remaining members of the tribal council, who have continued to meet despite the loss of their top leaders. Nuvamsa claims all of their actions are illegal.
