Town opposes Lytton Band land-into-trust bid

The town council in Windsor, California, voted 4-1 to oppose the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians' land-into-trust application.

The tribe wants to use about 100 acres for housing and a community center. Town leaders say the development will exceed guidelines for housing in Sonoma County.

The county has also gone on record against the application. But if the land is placed in trust, the tribe won't have to abide by county regulations.

The tribe's only other land base is located in San Pablo, where the tribe acquired a casino through an act of Congress.
