Larry EchoHawk expects to be sworn in as early as Friday as the new leader of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

EchoHawk, a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma, was confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday. He is making plans to move to Virginia as part of his new job in the nation's capitol.

“I will probably travel to Washington, D.C., tomorrow and be sworn in as early as Friday of this week,” EchoHawk told The Daily University at Brigham Young University, where he has served as a law professor. “We’re making arrangements for a move that would occur as soon as possible.”

EchoHawk said he is committed to serving as Indian affairs at the Department of the Interior for the next four years. He plans to focus on education, economic development and law enforcement.
