HUD, Education secretaries visit Indian Country

Two of President Barack Obama's Cabinet secretaries made their first trip into Indian Country on Wednesday.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Education Secretary Arne Duncan first stopped at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. They visited a tribal school, toured a home on the reservation, went to the site of a housing development, met with students and attended a tribal council meeting.

Later, Donovan and Duncan met with tribal leaders from across the state in Billings. "Let us come to the table," State Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy of the Chippewa Cree Tribe told the officials, The Billings Gazette reported. "We live it every day. We know what the needs are."

The trip was arranged at the request of Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana), who posted a schedule of the day's events.
