Gitanmaax Band sues Canada over fishery
The Gitanmaax Indian Band of British Columbia is suing the government of Canada for a destroyed fishery.

The band used to fish in the Bulkley River Canyon in the 1800s and 1900s. The lawsuit claims the government entered the band's traditional territory without approval and blasted away rocks at the site in order to bolster a non-Native fishery.

"The defendant chose to destroy the fishing rock despite knowing of less drastic technology available at the time of the blasting, including the installation of a fishway to bypass the fishing rock," the complaint states, Courthouse News Service reported.
