Two North Dakota tribes met on Wednesday to discuss the settlement they each received for the loss of hundreds of thousands of acres of valuable land to the Missouri River.
The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara
Nation received a $143 million trust fund and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe received $90 million. Tribal leaders might seek to reopen the deal because they said the U.S. hasn't lived up to its terms of the deal.
Other tribes have asked Congress to add more money to their Missouri River settlement funds. A number of bills have been introduced in recent years but none became law.
