Power is being restored to the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, which was hit by a major winter storm on January 21.

Most people have electricity again but about 1,500 homes remain without power. It could be weeks before the situation returns to normal.

“I’m just so thankful that none of the people living on this reservation died,” Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty told The New York Times.

The water system that serves 14,000 people had failed when the power went out.
