Shakopee man refusing to pay settlement for assault
A member of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota is refusing to pay off a $2 million settlement to the family of a girl whom he sexually assaulted, KSTP-TV reports.

Daniel Jones was 18 at the time of the November 2000 death of Brittany Powell, who was 16. He served four years in prison for assaulting her and agreed to pay her family $2 million.

Jones apparently paid $500,000 up front but won't pay the remainder. He's pleading poverty but he reportedly receives a $72,000 monthly per capita payment from his tribe.

Jones told the station he wants to renegotiate the settlement.
