Chumash Tribe purchases ranch property for reported $40M
The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians of California announced the purchase of a 1,390-acre ranch property.

The tribe bought the land from Fess Parker Enterprises. The purchase price was about $40 million, The Santa Ynez Valley News reported.

The property includes 745 acres that the tribe wanted to buy from Fess Parker, the late actor who rose to fame as the star of "Davy Crockett." But the plan fell apart after local opposition.

The tribe hasn't said what it plans to do with the land. Chairman Vincent Armenta said the site has historical significance to the tribe.

Parker died on March 18 at the age of 85.
