REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS | NATIVE AMERICAN OUTREACH SPECIALIST
MENTOR is accepting applications for the Native American Initiative as part of the Mentoring Children of Prisoners Voucher: Caregiver’s Choice Demonstration Program, a service delivery demonstration project funded by ACYF, FYSB.
Mentoring Children of Prisoners: Caregiver’s Choice – is a cooperative agreement with MENTOR to ensure the national distribution of mentoring service vouchers to families and caregivers of children whose parent(s) are incarcerated in either a state, federal or tribal prison.
Caregiver’s Choice provides vouchers for mentoring services (worth up to $1,000) to children of prisoners and their families through a mentoring support agency. Vouchers enable families to choose a mentoring program that meets quality standards, and enable mentoring organizations to serve children closer to where they live.
Special emphasis for this subcontract will focus on recruiting eligible mentoring program providers who serve Native American communities as well as indentifying eligible children within tribal and Native American communities.
Funding up to $100,000 is available for the remaining year 3 grant cycle, ending 9/29/10.
Non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, tribes, tribal organizations, government agencies and individual consultants already working within tribal and Native American communities may apply.
The successful applicant should demonstrate extensive expertise and knowledge in building the capacity of organizations serving Native American youth, mentoring high risk youth populations; and developing intervention strategies for prisoners and their families through mentoring programs and services in or serving Native American communities.
The service delivery plan will achieve the following outcomes:
Will be responsible for the overall identification of eligible mentoring programs and subsequent enrollment of programs, serving primarily Native American youth.
• Identify at least 75-100 eligible mentoring programs serving Native American youth prior to September 29, 2010.All applications are due by 4:30 p.m. E.T. on Friday, April 16, 2010.
