Deadline nears for Salazar on contentious wind farm bid
The clock is ticking for Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to make a decision on a controversial wind farm in Massachusetts.

Salazar wanted the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the Cape Wind developers and other affected parties to reach a compromise. When that failed, he asked the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation for an opinion on the project.

The ACHP concluded that the wind farm would negatively impact tribal sites. The tribes are worried that the 440-foot tall turbines will block their view of the sun and disrupt burial grounds and archaeological sites at Nantucket Sound.

Salazar said will issue a decision by the end of the month. The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe asked for a meeting to discuss the issue but he declined.
