Crow Creek Sioux Tribe inaugurates leader after close vote

The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota inaugurated a new chairman and tribal council members on Tuesday.

Chairman Duane Big Eagle, 60, won the race by just 11 votes. He defeated Brandon Sazue, 36, who had raised allegations of vote-buying and wrongdoing.

"To me, there was no controversy other than the fact that he was upset for losing,” Big Eagle told The Mitchell Daily Republic. "When I lose the election, I go home. I don’t protest or harass the other people.”

Six council members were also inaugurated.
