Oneida Nation calls county settlement talks a publicity stunt
The Oneida Nation isn't reacting kindly to "principles of settlement" that were offered by Madison County, New York.

The county identified nine issues that it wants to discuss with the tribe. The "principles" cover land-into-trust, taxation, regulation, sovereign immunity and gaming.

But the tribe says the proposal can't be taken seriously. The county has never been willing to come to the table, a spokesperson said.

“The county’s continued unilateral demands on these issues do not reflect current circumstances or the state of the law, and they have cost the county an opportunity to resolve these disputes once and for all,” spokesperson Mark Emery told The Oneida Dispatch.

The tribe owns about 17,000 acres in Madison County and in Oneida County.
