Absentee Shawnee day care director fired on grand opening
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma fired the director of its new day center right before the grand opening.

Alecia Onzahwah, a representative on the tribal executive committee, would not comment on the reason for the termination. The tribe appointed an interim director for the $1.5 million Building Blocks Child Development Center.

“I have proudly accepted the position,” Sherrie Reynolds told The Shawnee News-Star. “My goal is to have the best program in the state. I know that it will be a success.”

The 9,000 square-foot facility has space for 90 children. The prior facility could only hold up to 40.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs provided about $35,000 for the parking lot, the paper reported.
